MoPSW Aims to Complete 150 Key Infrastructure Projects in the Next Six Months

The Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways (MoPSW) has set an ambitious target of completing 150 crucial infrastructure projects within the next six months, aiming to accelerate the modernization of India’s maritime and inland waterways sector. These projects, spanning port expansion, multimodal logistics hubs, inland water transport enhancements, and green shipping initiatives, are expected to strengthen the country’s logistics framework, improve trade efficiency, and support economic growth. Key developments include the expansion of Deendayal Port in Gujarat, a new container terminal at Paradip Port in Odisha, and the ongoing development of National Waterway-1, which will enhance river-based trade across multiple states. The government’s commitment to port-led industrialization under initiatives like Sagarmala and PM Gati Shakti is driving significant investment, with an emphasis on public-private partnerships to ensure seamless execution. MoPSW Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has reiterated that these efforts align with the broader Maritime India Vision 2030, aiming to position India as a global logistics and shipping hub. The completion of these projects is expected to lower logistics costs, improve supply chain efficiency, boost exports, and create employment opportunities while promoting sustainable and digitalized port operations. However, challenges such as land acquisition, environmental clearances, and financial constraints remain, requiring close coordination between the central government, state agencies, and private stakeholders. Despite these hurdles, the ministry is confident that rapid execution will significantly enhance India’s maritime infrastructure, reinforcing its position as a key player in global trade and transportation.
