Gurugram Metro Expansion: Rs 5,452.72 Crore Project to Boost Connectivity
Gurugram’s metro network is set for a major expansion with a Rs 5,452.72 crore investment, aiming to improve connectivity across Millennium City Centre, Old Gurugram, and Cyber City. This ambitious project will add 27 new stations along a 28.5 km route, easing congestion and enhancing urban mobility in the rapidly growing metropolis.
Key Project Highlights
The metro expansion is scheduled to begin on 1 May 2025, funded jointly by the central and Haryana state governments. The Haryana government will contribute Rs 4,556.53 crore, while the central government will provide Rs 896.19 crore. The new metro corridor is expected to serve approximately 540,000 daily commuters, with ridership projected to increase to 726,000 by 2031. The development will also include five underpasses and flyovers, ensuring smoother traffic flow across Gurugram.
Advanced Infrastructure and Technology
The metro line will feature eight model stations and operate at a maximum speed of 80 km/h. It will incorporate the Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) signalling system, enhancing safety, efficiency, and reliability. Authorities have confirmed that construction will commence soon, marking a crucial step toward modernising Gurugram’s transport infrastructure.
Transforming Urban Mobility
Once completed within the next four years, the project is expected to significantly improve public transit, reducing travel time, easing road congestion, and supporting sustainable urban growth. This expansion will further solidify Gurugram’s status as a key economic and transit hub, benefiting residents and businesses alike.
