The Northern Railway is making the progress under the ‘Viksit Bharat Viksit Railway’ initiative which is aimed for the upgradation of movable assets and fixed infrastructure to provide the modern and comfortable travel experiences to the passengers.

One of the major key growth drivers of this transformation is the Amrit Bharat Scheme which was launched by Shri Narendra Modi, Prime Minister, which is fast-tracking the redevelopment of railway stations across the country.

The project is already under the process with the master plan in which 104 stations are already approved. In the first phase of this project, 16 stations are set for significant upgrades, and 21 starting are currently underway.

The budget allocation for the project is Rs 1,538 crore in the fiscal year 2024-25 and it makes it one of the major investments in the modernization of railway infrastructure.

These are the stations which are included in the redevelopment plans across Northern Railway’s five divisions - Delhi, Ambala, Firozpur, Moradabad, and Lucknow.

To improve the connectivity in key urban centers, the redevelopment also extends to stations near popular tourist and pilgrimage destinations such as Ayodhya, Varanasi, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, Anandpur Sahib, Kalka and Shimla.
