Delhi Metro Receives First ‘Make in India's Driverless Train To Enhance Phase 4 Expansion

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has received its first metro train set emerged with driverless technology, embarking on a major milestone under the ‘Make in India's initiative.

That's a part of DMRC’s first project deployed to an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), as per an official statement.

 

Vikash Kumar, DMRC Managing Director, has passed his statement on this significant event, “Today is a historic occasion for the Delhi Metro family as we take another major step towards operationalizing the Phase 4 corridors.” The first train set, dispatched from Alstom’s facility in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh, is part of a broader plan aimed at enhancing eco-friendly and convenient travel for metro passengers.

 

The train sets are formulated to operate safely at the speed of up to 95 kmph and an operational speed of up to 85 kmph and the new trains will serve the three major lines of the Delhi Metro, including two extensions and the new Gold Line 10, covering 64.67 km in total. This project’s cost was evaluated at 312 million euros and it includes 15 years of maintenance, and it makes it the first such outsourcing by the DMRC to an OEM, according to the official statement.
