The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has awarded contracts for nine infrastructure projects totaling Rs 12,500 crore, including the extension of the Eastern Freeway to Thane, in and around Mumbai.

In a statement released on Thursday, the MMRDA announced that its executive committee, chaired by Maharashtra Chief Secretary Sujata Sainik, has approved a series of infrastructure projects aimed at “alleviating traffic congestion and improving connectivity.”

MMRDA is responsible for planning, formulating policies, and implementing projects to guide investment within the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), which spans 6,328 square kilometers and includes nine municipal corporations.

The release also mentions a 608-meter foot overbridge to be constructed at Teen Hath Naka in Thane, part of the Metro Line 4 and 4A developments, costing Rs 68.08 crore.

According to MMRDA, these projects will involve the construction and widening of over 50 km of roads, addressing “critical transportation needs in the region.”

“These infrastructure projects will play a pivotal role in improving traffic flow and accelerating development in Mumbai and Thane,” MMRDA Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee said.
