Bengaluru Skydeck project: Which area is being considered for constructing the 250m high building?

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar announced on Saturday that opposition leaders in Bengaluru have agreed to establish a 250-metre Skydeck near NICE Road.

He revealed this in a press conference, adding that the plan will be present before the Cabinet very soon and will be taken forward from there.

As per Shivkumar, who is also the Bengaluru Development Minister, the Skydeck in Bengaluru will require about 25 acres of land. For the skydeck, the government had shortlisted land near Kommaghatta and Bengaluru university campus. However, that idea was dropped as the decision would have impacted students.

“We had shortlisted about 10 places for this project, but the Ministry of Aviation had reservations about those due to Skydeck’s height. All elected representatives from Bengaluru, including Leader of Opposition R Ashoka, have agreed for NICE Road location,” Shivkumar said.

The land being considered for the skydeck is currently with the promoters of NICE Road. “But R Ashoka (Leader of Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly) said that as per the Supreme Court order, NICE is supposed to handover about 200 acres to the government. Hence, NICE Road land has been finalised,” he added.

Addressing concerns about the location being far from the city, Shivakumar stated that all factors have been considered. He noted that the site is convenient for tourists as it lies on the route to popular destinations like Mysuru and Kodagu. Connectivity will further improve once the Peripheral Ring Road is completed. The location will be discussed in the Cabinet, and the project is planned to be funded by the government.
