ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) has formally broken ground on a major greenfield integrated steel plant project in Anakapalli district of Andhra Pradesh, marking the start of construction on one of the country’s largest steel manufacturing investments. The ceremony was held on 23 March 2026 and attended by senior officials from the company and government representatives.

The new facility is being developed with an estimated investment of around ₹70,000 crore and will be located near Rajayyapeta in the state’s industrial belt. In its first phase, the plant will have a production capacity of approximately 8.2 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of steel, strengthening India’s domestic manufacturing base and supporting long-term industry growth.

Industry analysts note that this project signifies a major expansion of AM/NS India’s footprint in the steel sector, reflecting confidence in India’s infrastructure-led economic growth and rising demand for steel across construction, transportation, and urban development sectors.

Officials at the groundbreaking event highlighted the importance of large-scale industrial investments in meeting India’s goals for steel production and economic development, particularly as the nation continues to expand its manufacturing and export capabilities.

The plant is expected to create significant employment opportunities both directly and indirectly in the region and support the broader industrial ecosystem, including logistics, suppliers, and ancillary services.

Construction activities have commenced following the completion of preparatory work, including land acquisition and site readiness, positioning the project to move forward swiftly toward operational milestones.

This development marks a key milestone in India’s steel industry, as AM/NS India accelerates capacity expansion to serve growing domestic and international demand while contributing to regional economic growth in southeastern India.
