Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced ₹18,680 crore worth of infrastructure projects in West Bengal to enhance connectivity, logistics, and economic growth.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for multiple infrastructure projects worth ₹18,680 crore in West Bengal, aimed at strengthening connectivity and accelerating economic growth across eastern India.

The projects span roads, railways and port infrastructure, forming part of a broader effort to improve logistics networks and support trade and industrial development in the region. The initiatives are expected to enhance connectivity, reduce travel time and create new economic opportunities for businesses and communities.

A major component of the announcement includes the foundation laying of several sections of the 231-km Kharagpur–Moregram economic corridor, a key highway project designed to significantly shorten travel distances and improve freight movement across the state. The corridor is expected to reduce travel distance by about 120 kilometres and cut several hours of travel time, strengthening connectivity between southern and northern parts of West Bengal.

The Prime Minister also launched a range of railway and port-related initiatives, including redevelopment of railway stations and upgrades to port facilities, aimed at improving cargo handling efficiency and enhancing multimodal logistics capabilities in the state.

These infrastructure investments are expected to boost regional trade, strengthen supply chains and support industrial growth across eastern India, while improving mobility and quality of life for millions of people in the region.
