The Gujarat government has placed an order for 34 new metro train sets to strengthen urban rail transport in the state, supporting the expansion of metro services in Ahmedabad and Surat.

Out of the total order, 10 train sets will be deployed for Ahmedabad Metro Phase-II, while 24 train sets are intended for the upcoming Surat Metro project, which is currently under construction.

The additional trains for Ahmedabad will operate on the Ahmedabad–Gandhinagar corridor, where metro services are already running with 32 train sets. The new rolling stock is expected to increase service frequency, reduce waiting time and improve passenger capacity on the busy corridor connecting the two cities.

Meanwhile, the Surat Metro project, being developed over a network of around 40 km, will receive 24 train sets to support its future operations once the system becomes operational.

The trains will be manufactured at Titagarh’s production facility in Kolkata, highlighting the growing role of domestic manufacturing in India’s urban rail sector.

The procurement is part of Gujarat’s broader strategy to expand its metro network, improve sustainable urban mobility and accommodate the rising transportation demand in its rapidly growing cities.
