South Central Railway unveils pilot Rail Parcel App at Rail Nilayam to digitise parcel services.

South Central Railway has launched a pilot version of its Rail Parcel App at Rail Nilayam in Hyderabad, aiming to modernise and streamline parcel booking and delivery services for customers using the rail network.

The new application is designed to facilitate digital booking of rail parcels, allowing users to apply for parcel reservations, make payments and track consignments directly from their mobile phones or other digital devices. The pilot rollout is being conducted to assess user experience, operational efficiency and integration with existing parcel handling systems before wider implementation across the zone.

The Rail Parcel App is part of South Central Railway’s efforts to enhance customer convenience and expand rail-based logistics solutions in the e-commerce era. By enabling digital booking and tracking, the system seeks to reduce dependence on manual processes and improve the speed and transparency of parcel movement.

During the launch event at Rail Nilayam, officials demonstrated the app’s features, including booking request submission, digital payment options and real-time consignment status updates. Users are expected to benefit from simplified documentation, reduced wait times at parcel booking offices, and better visibility of shipment progress.

The pilot launch also involved engagement with staff and stakeholders involved in parcel operations, aimed at gathering feedback to refine the app’s functionality, user interface and backend integration with station parcel terminals.

South Central Railway hopes that, upon successful evaluation of the pilot phase, the Rail Parcel App will be expanded to additional locations, enabling customers nationwide to access digital parcel services through the Indian Railways system.

The initiative is part of broader efforts by rail authorities to adopt digital solutions, enhance service delivery and increase railways’ share in the logistics and cargo market by offering customer-friendly alternatives to road-based parcel services.
