Tata Steel’s new ₹3,200 crore manufacturing facility in Ludhiana is expected to start operations in March 2026, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said on Thursday, highlighting the project’s significance for local industry and employment.

The plant, which has been under development over the past few years, is designed to produce a range of steel products for domestic markets. The facility is anticipated to enhance supply chain resilience for manufacturers in the region and cater to growing demand in sectors such as infrastructure, automotive and engineering.

The Ludhiana unit forms part of Tata Steel’s broader expansion strategy to strengthen its production footprint in northern India. Its commissioning is expected to support ancillary industries, create direct and indirect employment opportunities, and contribute to the industrial ecosystem of Punjab.

Speaking at an event in Ludhiana, the Chief Minister said that the operationalisation of the plant would bring a “new era of industrial growth” for the region. State leaders and industry stakeholders noted that the facility is likely to attract further investment and help position Ludhiana as a key manufacturing hub.

Officials said key plant infrastructure, machinery commissioning and trial runs are in advanced stages, and final clearances and operational readiness work are being completed ahead of the scheduled launch. The project is expected to generate skilled and unskilled jobs during ramp-up and production phases.

The Ludhiana steel plant is also expected to support local supply chains by reducing dependence on distant suppliers and lowering logistics costs for steel-intensive sectors. Industry observers said the commencement of operations could enhance competitiveness for regional manufacturers.

The state government said it will continue to facilitate industry growth and support measures that improve the business environment for large projects like the Tata Steel facility.
