The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has proposed two major urban development projects like Japan City and Singapore City along the Yamuna Expressway corridor, aimed at boosting economic activity, enhancing urban infrastructure and attracting global investment, officials said.
The proposals were discussed during a recent meeting of the authority, which outlined plans to develop the thematic cities as part of a broader vision to transform the Yamuna Expressway region into a world-class urban and industrial hub. The projects are designed to combine residential, commercial, educational and cultural components with international partnerships and global design standards.
The proposed Japan City is expected to showcase Japanese architectural sensibilities and urban planning principles, potentially including technology parks, cultural centres, educational institutions and business districts geared towards Japanese businesses and investors. Similarly, Singapore City is envisioned as a model city reflecting Singapore’s strengths in smart urban infrastructure, economic competitiveness, sustainability and integrated city planning.
YEIDA officials said that both projects are in the conceptual stage, with details such as master planning, investment frameworks, strategic partnerships and implementation timelines to be finalised through stakeholder consultations and feasibility studies. The authority aims to engage prospective investors, international partners and urban design experts to develop detailed plans.
The initiative is part of YEIDA’s long-term strategy to capitalise on the strategic location along the Yamuna Expressway, a key expressway linking Noida and Agra which has seen growing interest from industries, real estate developers and logistics players. The development of thematic cities is expected to create employment opportunities, enhance livability and support regional economic growth.
The officials said that Japan City and Singapore City projects will complement existing infrastructure initiatives along the corridor, including institutional zones, industrial clusters, residential townships, tourism assets and logistics parks. The authority is working to ensure that future developments incorporate smart city elements, sustainability measures and efficient connectivity to regional transport networks.
The proposed projects have generated interest among industry stakeholders and development experts, who said that such thematic cities could attract foreign direct investment, foster international collaborations and elevate the overall appeal of the Yamuna Expressway region as a destination for business and lifestyle.
YEIDA is expected to undertake environmental assessments and regulatory clearances as part of preliminary planning, with further announcements on project partners, investment commitments and execution schedules expected in the coming months.
