KNR Constructions wins ₹2,163 crore contract for Chennai ECR elevated corridor.

KNR Constructions has won a significant contract worth ₹2,163 crore to construct an elevated corridor along the East Coast Road (ECR) in Chennai, officials said, underscoring the company’s growing footprint in urban infrastructure development.

The project envisages the design and construction of a high-capacity elevated corridor aimed at improving traffic flow, reducing congestion and enhancing connectivity along the coastal stretch linking key urban nodes in the region. The elevated alignment is expected to ease travel from central Chennai toward its southern peripheries, benefitting both commuter and freight movement in the rapidly developing metropolitan area.

Under the terms of the contract, KNR Constructions will undertake civil works including pile foundations, piers, deck construction, ramps and associated infrastructure elements required for the elevated structure. The scope also includes related service roads and ancillary facilities to ensure seamless integration with existing transport networks.

Officials said the project is part of broader efforts to augment Chennai’s road infrastructure, addressing capacity constraints on one of the city’s busiest corridors. With vehicle population and urban expansion rising in the region, elevated corridors are being deployed to support faster, uninterrupted travel while reducing pressure on surface roads.

KNR Constructions, known for its expertise in executing large-scale highways and urban road projects, will deploy advanced engineering practices and construction methodologies to meet technical and quality standards. The company’s experience in managing complex infrastructure projects will be central to delivering the elevated corridor within projected timelines.

The elevated corridor project is expected to create direct employment opportunities during construction and contribute to economic activity in the region. Officials said that coordination with local authorities and traffic management teams will be integral during the implementation phase to minimise disruptions and ensure safety.

With the award of this contract, KNR Constructions adds another major infrastructure project to its portfolio, reinforcing its position in the urban infrastructure space. Work on the ECR elevated corridor is expected to commence following statutory clearances, detailed design finalisation and mobilisation of resources.
