Swan Defence and Heavy Industries Limited (SDHI) has secured a defence export order from the Government of the Sultanate of Oman to build and supply a state-of-the-art training vessel for the Royal Navy of Oman. The ship is intended to support advanced naval training and maritime operations and is scheduled for delivery within 18 months.

The order marks a significant milestone for India’s defence exports and highlights the growing global recognition of the country’s indigenous shipbuilding capabilities. It also underscores the strengthening maritime cooperation and long-standing bilateral ties between India and Oman.

The training vessel will measure 104.25 metres in length, with a beam of 13.88 metres and a displacement of up to 3,500 tonnes. It will be equipped with modern classrooms, training offices, and accommodation facilities, along with an onboard auditorium designed to provide a comprehensive learning environment at sea for up to 70 officer cadets.

In addition, the ship will feature advanced navigation and communication systems and will be capable of supporting helicopter operations, enhancing its role in training as well as operational preparedness.

Commenting on the development, Rear Admiral V.K. Saxena (Retd.), Chief Executive Officer of SDHI, said the contract reflects the company’s strong technical expertise and shipbuilding capabilities aligned with global standards. He added that the confidence shown by the Royal Navy of Oman reinforces SDHI’s commitment to delivering high-quality vessels focused on innovation, reliability, and performance.

The export order further positions SDHI as a key contributor to India’s emergence as a competitive global hub for defence manufacturing and shipbuilding.
