Indian Railways Undertakes Major Safety Overhaul, Strengthens Over 8,000 Bridges Since 2022

Indian Railways has carried out an extensive safety initiative, repairing, strengthening, or rebuilding more than 8,000 rail bridges across the country since 2022, officials said. The move is part of a broader effort to enhance the structural integrity of the rail network and ensure passenger and freight safety.

The program includes comprehensive inspections, retrofitting of old structures, and replacement of bridges that were deemed unsafe or structurally deficient. Authorities highlighted that such proactive measures are aimed at preventing accidents and improving the reliability of train operations nationwide.

Railway engineers and safety teams have also adopted modern construction techniques and materials to extend the lifespan of bridges, while reducing maintenance-related disruptions.
