Madurai Airport’s much-awaited expansion project has entered a crucial phase with 543 acres of land already handed over to the Airports Authority of India (AAI) out of the 653 acres required. The remaining land acquisition is in its final stages, paving the way for faster execution of the project.
The proposed expansion includes runway extension, enabling Madurai Airport to accommodate wide-body aircraft and facilitate direct international long-haul flights. This development is expected to significantly enhance air connectivity, trade opportunities, and tourism in southern Tamil Nadu, strengthening Madurai’s position as a key aviation hub in South India.
Authorities are working in close coordination to ensure timely completion of infrastructure upgrades. The initiative has been widely welcomed by travelers, industry bodies, and trade associations, who view the project as a game-changer for regional economic growth and passenger convenience.
With this expansion, Madurai is set to play a more prominent role in India’s aviation network, boosting both domestic and global connectivity.
