The Andhra Pradesh government has sanctioned ₹300 crore for the repair, renovation and development of Roads and Buildings (R&B) roads across six districts in preparation for the Godavari Pushkaralu-2027.
Roads and Buildings Minister B C Janardhan Reddy said the Finance Department gave immediate approval for the funds following the directions of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. The road development programme is aimed at providing safe, smooth and improved transportation facilities to the millions of devotees expected to attend the religious event.
The works will cover 78 roads spanning nearly 431 km across East Godavari, West Godavari, Kakinada, Dr B R Ambedkar Konaseema, Polavaram and Eluru districts.
Of the total ₹300 crore allocation, ₹185.75 crore has been earmarked for 41 State Highway (SH) projects covering around 275 km. Another ₹114.25 crore will be utilised for 37 Major District Roads (MDRs) extending across nearly 155 km.
The government has given priority to restoring badly damaged road stretches and improving important routes in and around the Godavari region. The works will be undertaken on a priority basis to strengthen connectivity to key pilgrimage and bathing locations during the Pushkaralu.
The road development programme comes as Andhra Pradesh steps up preparations for the 2027 Godavari Pushkaralu, which will be held from June 26 to July 7. The event is expected to draw millions of devotees, placing significant requirements on the region’s transport and other infrastructure.
Janardhan Reddy said the government’s objective is to ensure that devotees travelling from different parts of the country do not face traffic congestion or difficulties while reaching the pilgrimage locations. The ₹300-crore investment is expected to improve the condition and appearance of R&B roads across the Godavari region.
The government has been undertaking wider infrastructure preparations for the Pushkaralu across the six districts. Earlier, the State had reviewed thousands of infrastructure works covering roads, ghats, sanitation, water resources, energy and other facilities, with the aim of completing priority works before the event.
The road programme is part of the State’s broader effort to strengthen connectivity and ensure hassle-free movement during the 12-day religious event. The focus on upgrading key road corridors is expected to support the movement of the large number of pilgrims travelling between bathing ghats, temples and other important locations across the Godavari region.
