KONE Elevator India, in partnership with ExNoRa International Foundation, has successfully completed the restoration of Keelkattalai Lake and development of its Eco Park, transforming the urban water body into a greener, biodiverse space for the community.
The restoration included de-weeding, dredging and desilting, strengthening of lake bunds, and development of pathways, fencing, lighting and safety infrastructure. Environmental interventions such as Vetiver plantations, bird islands and extensive tree plantation have further enhanced the lake’s ecological value. The Eco Park also features spaces for children, senior citizens and the wider community.
The project was inaugurated by Amit Gossain, Managing Director – KONE Elevator India in the presence of Ms. J. Kamatchi, MLA, Pallavaram Constituency, and representatives from ExNoRa International Foundation.
The project also brought KONE Chennai employees together as volunteers to plant trees at the site. Many of the saplings planted by employees have now grown into young trees, giving them a personal connection to the restored space.
“Keelkattalai Lake is a wonderful example of what collective action can achieve. It is an initiative for the people and by the people. Our employees have been an integral part of this journey and seeing the trees they planted grow alongside the restored lake makes the impact especially meaningful. We hope this space will continue to benefit the community and nature for years to come,” said Amit Gossain, Managing Director – KONE Elevator India.
The restored lake and Eco Park will provide the community with a greener environment, enhanced biodiversity and a space to connect with nature.
