Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is set to inaugurate the newly widened and strengthened Green City–Madhopur Bundh Road in Gorakhpur, a nearly two-kilometre road project developed at a cost of ₹69.58 crore. The upgraded corridor is expected to improve connectivity between NH-24 and Madhopur Bundh, while easing traffic movement for residential areas along the route.
The road provides a link between NH-24, the Sonauli–Nautanwa–Gorakhpur highway, and Madhopur Bundh, passing through Green City and Patniya. The widening and strengthening works have been executed by Construction Division-II of the Uttar Pradesh Public Works Department (PWD).
The project is expected to improve road access for residents of Green City and adjoining residential colonies, while creating a smoother alternative route towards Madhopur Bundh. The upgraded stretch is also intended to improve traffic circulation around the rapidly developing residential areas connected to the corridor.
A key component of the project is the addition of drainage infrastructure along both sides of the road. The drains are designed to facilitate the discharge of rainwater during the monsoon and reduce the risk of waterlogging, an important consideration for a road serving densely populated urban and residential areas.
The project assumes wider significance as Gorakhpur continues to strengthen its urban road network. The latest road upgrade follows other major infrastructure works undertaken in the city, including the 11.6-km Bhathat–Banssthan four-lane road and the district’s first six-lane flyover, reflecting an ongoing focus on improving road capacity and connectivity across the city.
The Green City–Madhopur Bundh corridor is particularly relevant from an urban mobility perspective because it connects a national highway with residential and local road networks. Strengthening such links can help distribute traffic more efficiently and reduce pressure on existing routes serving expanding parts of the city.
With the project now completed, the upgraded road is expected to provide improved movement for local commuters while supporting better access to adjoining residential and urban areas. The inclusion of dedicated drainage infrastructure also gives the project a broader role in improving the resilience of the road corridor during periods of heavy rainfall.
