Union Minister for Civil Aviation Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu reviewed the progress of the Dholera International Airport project in Gujarat, describing it as a transformative infrastructure initiative that will serve as a catalyst for India’s economic growth. During his visit, the minister assessed the ongoing construction, held discussions with project stakeholders and reviewed the roadmap for timely completion of the greenfield airport.
Naidu was accompanied by Civil Aviation Secretary Samir Kumar Sinha, Airports Authority of India (AAI) Chairman Vipin Kumar, senior officials from the Gujarat government and representatives of the Dholera International Airport consortium. The review focused on construction milestones, operational preparedness and the airport’s integration with the broader infrastructure ecosystem being developed in the Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR).
According to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, nearly 80% of the airport’s construction work has been completed, with the project progressing as scheduled. The first phase is expected to become operational by September–October 2026, creating a new aviation gateway for Gujarat while supporting industrial and economic activities in the region.
Highlighting the strategic importance of the project, Naidu said Dholera International Airport is not merely an airport for Gujarat but a nationally significant infrastructure asset that will strengthen India’s logistics and transportation network. The airport is being developed to serve the upcoming smart industrial city, semiconductor manufacturing units, logistics parks and other industries planned under the Dholera Special Investment Region.
The airport will be integrated with major multimodal transport infrastructure, including the Ahmedabad–Dholera Expressway, a six-lane highway, and the proposed high-speed rail corridor, ensuring seamless connectivity for passengers and cargo. The integrated transport network is expected to improve regional accessibility, facilitate faster movement of goods and attract domestic and international investments to the industrial region.
Once operational, Dholera International Airport is expected to play a key role in supporting India’s manufacturing ambitions, enhancing export competitiveness and boosting economic activity in western India. The project is also anticipated to generate employment opportunities and strengthen Gujarat’s position as a major hub for aviation, logistics and industrial development.
