The Uttar Pradesh government has brought the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) under the Infrastructure and Industrial Development Department headed by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in a move aimed at accelerating the implementation of expressways and other strategic infrastructure projects across the state.

The administrative restructuring is expected to strengthen coordination between various departments involved in large-scale infrastructure development and facilitate faster execution of high-priority projects. UPEIDA has been at the forefront of several flagship initiatives that have transformed Uttar Pradesh’s transportation landscape over the past decade.

The authority is responsible for the development of some of the state’s most significant infrastructure projects, including the Purvanchal Expressway, Bundelkhand Expressway, Gorakhpur Link Expressway, Ganga Expressway, and the Defence Industrial Corridor. These projects have played a key role in improving connectivity, attracting investment, and supporting industrial growth across different regions of the state.

By bringing UPEIDA directly under the Chief Minister’s infrastructure department, the government aims to streamline decision-making and ensure closer monitoring of ongoing and upcoming projects. The move is also expected to help integrate expressway development with industrial corridors, logistics parks, manufacturing clusters, and other economic infrastructure initiatives.

The restructuring comes as Uttar Pradesh continues to pursue an ambitious infrastructure-led growth strategy, with a strong focus on enhancing road connectivity, promoting industrialisation, and creating new economic opportunities. Several major projects are currently under construction, while new proposals are being planned to support the state’s long-term development objectives.

UPEIDA’s expanded role is expected to support the government’s efforts to build a comprehensive network of expressways and industrial infrastructure, strengthening Uttar Pradesh’s position as a key investment, manufacturing, and logistics destination in the country.

The latest decision underscores the state’s emphasis on fast-tracking infrastructure development and ensuring that major projects are executed efficiently to support economic growth, connectivity, and employment generation.
