PM Modi Opens Two Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway Sections, Unveils Major Connectivity Projects in Gujarat

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated two completed sections of the Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway and launched a series of highway projects during his visit to Gujarat, further advancing connectivity along one of India’s most important economic corridors.

The newly inaugurated stretches include the 36-km Kim–Ena section and the 27.5-km Gandeva-Ena section of the Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway. Developed at a combined cost of around ₹7,700 crore, the sections form part of the larger Delhi-Mumbai Expressway network being developed to enhance high-speed road connectivity between northern and western India.

Built as access-controlled corridors, the new stretches feature multiple bridges, flyovers, underpasses, and interchanges designed to facilitate seamless movement of passenger and freight traffic. The expressway passes through some of Gujarat’s key industrial and manufacturing regions, where demand for efficient logistics infrastructure continues to grow.

Apart from the expressway inauguration, the Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone and dedicated several National Highway projects aimed at strengthening road infrastructure across Gujarat. The projects cover important transport corridors and are intended to improve connectivity between industrial centres, urban areas, tribal regions, and tourism destinations.

Several of the highway projects are expected to improve access to South Gujarat while supporting movement between manufacturing clusters, ports, and commercial hubs. Enhanced road infrastructure is also expected to complement the state’s growing logistics and export ecosystem.

The Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway remains a crucial component of the broader Delhi-Mumbai Expressway programme, which is being implemented in phases across multiple states. The inauguration of the Kim-Ena and Gandeva–Ena sections marks another milestone in the corridor’s gradual expansion.

The projects unveiled during the visit reflect the continuing focus on strengthening highway infrastructure, improving inter-city mobility, and supporting economic activity through better transport connectivity. As additional sections become operational, the expressway network is expected to play an increasingly important role in linking industrial regions, freight corridors, and major urban centres across western India.
