Underground tunnel construction project connecting Bihar Museum and Patna Museum
Bihar government begins construction of a 1.5 km underground tunnel to connect Bihar Museum and Patna Museum in Patna.

Construction work has begun on a ₹542-crore underground tunnel in Patna that will connect the Bihar Museum and the historic Patna Museum, marking a major step toward strengthening the city’s cultural infrastructure and tourism appeal. The project was formally launched by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who initiated the work by activating the tunnelling machine at the project site.

The proposed heritage tunnel, approximately 1.5 km long, will run beneath Nehru Path near Hartali Mor and provide a seamless underground link between the two prominent museums. Once completed, visitors will be able to move directly between the two institutions, creating an integrated cultural corridor showcasing Bihar’s rich history and heritage.

Officials stated that the project is expected to significantly enhance the visitor experience and increase tourist footfall in the state capital. The government has also directed authorities to ensure adequate parking and visitor facilities, anticipating higher numbers of domestic and international tourists once the tunnel becomes operational.

The initiative forms part of Bihar’s broader strategy to strengthen cultural tourism infrastructure while preserving and promoting the state’s historical and archaeological legacy.
