JSW Steel wins Deming Prize for its Vijayanagar steel plant

Homegrown steelmaker JSW Steel has been awarded the Deming Prize for excellence in Total Quality Management (TQM) for its Vijayanagar Works manufacturing unit in Karnataka. The Deming Application Prize is a prestigious annual quality award presented by the Union of Japanese Scientists and Engineers (JUSE) to companies that have achieved distinctive performance benchmarks through the application of TQM. The company will formally receive the prize on November 14 in Tokyo. “This coveted award complements our strong partnership with Original Equipment Manufacturers many of whom are Deming prize winners themselves,” Seshagiri Rao, joint MD at JSW Steel said in a release. In the past, companies like Mahindra & Mahindra, SRF, TVS Motor Company, Sundaram Clayton have featured in the list of Deming Prize winners. Tata Stee has also earlier won the award. “We designed the ‘0757’ campaign to inculcate quality process ethics in all our employees right from those on the shop-floor to the top-floor at JSW Steel Vijayanagar Works. The Deming Prize is a testimony to our efforts in implementing a system-based approach in quality & process design to ensure constant improvements in operations,”Vinod Nowal, deputy managing director said.
