Q.1 How new technology like telematics are changing the construction equipment industry?

Telematics helps improve the product efficiency and opens-up the industry for intelligent construction equipment. With advanced technology, use of data analytics for a real time and informed decision helps in increasing productivity, optimizing performance, maintaining fuel efficiency, improving operator safety, managing operational expenses,etc. 

CASE India offers advanced Eagle-Eye-Telematics solution in its Loader Backhoe range. This Telematics solution is a GPS monitoring system which offers unique ‘Geo-fencing’ feature. Geo-fencing feature helps the user to keep a track of his machine and sends an SMS alert if machine operates outside the designated area.

Furthermore, our R&D team constantly endeavors to add innovation in machine operations and keep machinery equipped with the latest technology.

 

Q.2 What are the challenges in order to provide fully equipped modern machines?

A fully equipped machine is always preferred by industry analysist, users, operators and manufacturers. However modernization of a machine also increases the input cost which has subsequent effect on market price of the machinery which is a major deterrent in sales performance.  Another challenge is operating know-how of the machinery. Advanced technology may have better productivity and time efficiency but operating new machinery with latest technology is a constant challenge.

Considering these challenges, we, at CASE India, have to constantly re-invent ourselves. CASE’s R&D team continuously endeavors to develop clever innovations to ensure equipment’s life cycle cost is lower than before. Additionally, in order to keep operators and users updated on new technology and to make them familiar with operating procedure, we keep organizing training sessions with them. These sessions help in educating participants on efficient use of new technology as well as proper maintenance of the machinery. 

 

Q.3 How these modern modifications are helping the customers?

Modern technologies are helping different sectors of the industry progress at a much faster rate.  Construction sector still relies heavily on manual labor, mechanical technology and established operating and business models. The technological updates will not only revolutionize the practice of designing in the industry but also bring a surge in sales. Modern update like telematics is an amazing input in the heavy machinery sector. This monitoring system helps the operator to know the movements of the machine, resulting in reduced accidents. Its Asset Monitoring System gives the freedom of machine monitoring and remote diagnostics alerts at the click of a button on a mobile or desktop computer. CASE India is constantly working on software based robust solutions to meet modern customer needs and requirements, and focuses on infusing technologies like automation, IoT, AI and advanced controlling system in our machines.

 

Q.4 Many equipment operators in India are unaware about the proper and efficient use of their machinery. What are the steps taken by CASE Construction for skill development?

Unavailability of skilled manpower and lack of sufficient number of trained operators are the major challenges faced by CE makers at the job site. To operate the technically advanced and hauled machines, there is a requirement of skilled operator, trained manpower and a clear understanding of these machines.

CASE India views these aspects as a major challenge and addresses it with providing training programs all around the year and make the machine interface in a way that can also be operated by semi-skilled labor. 

 

Q.5 In what ways these telematics and data analytic techniques are helping in maintenance and service process?

Technologies like Telematics and Data analytics are IoT based sensored technologies. The major advantage of these technologies is the indication of a preventive measure before any breakdown.

Repair and maintenance is an aspect which has a prominent effect on the industry. If a machine is repaired when the wear starts, it might cost less and hence save the time and money. IoT allows companies to tackle this problem head on. In relation to equipment monitoring and repair, sensors can enable machinery to detect and communicate maintenance requirements, send automated alerts for preventive maintenance, compile usage, maintain data and increase efficiency by remotely monitoring fuel consumption. These solutions can further help to understand signals and patterns to deploy real-time solutions, cut costs, prioritize preventative maintenance and prevent unplanned downtime.

Also,to deliver maximum efficiencies,the telematics and data analyticsoffers a better operational efficiency and security to the customer. It provides live tracking for the operating machines and assists in geofencing -- by setting a predefined area on a map beyond which the machine doesn’t work. This also helps in alerting the user to any kind of theft or unauthorized usage of the machine along with device tempering alerts. This advanced solution also comes with pre-emptive critical machine parameter alerts such as indication of engine oil pressure, coolant temperature, transmission oil temperature, hydraulic filter status and battery status. It helps the operator in keeping track of service history and sending service reminder alerts along with information on the nearest service center location. 

 

Q.6 How the economic slowdown is affecting the business?

Amidst the slow economic growth, infrastructure and construction activity have taken a hit. Continued delay in project awards and the overall uncertainty in the economy have led to a sharp decline in expenditure on roads in FY2020. However, with revival in public and private sector expenditure on infrastructure projects and execution of national and state highway stretches after proper payment to the contractors sector, we can hope for revival. In a bid to further give a push to the country's infrastructure, the government has set up a task force to draw up plans for building infrastructure worth Rs 100 lakh crore ($1.4 trillion) over the next five years. NHAI has been spending nearly Rs 70,000 crore annually on road construction. This organization is also trying to bring in private investments to improve the sector’s scenario. With realization of these steps taken to improve the sector’s financial situation,we can expect some stability in the demand in near future. 

 

Q.7 What will be the industry scenario in coming years? What are your future plans for Indian market?

Even though the CE industry is moving slow for now, we still see a bright future. To give a push to the country's infrastructure, the government has set up a task force to draw up plans for building infrastructure worth Rs100 lakh crore ($1.4 trillion) over the next five years. NHAI has been spending nearly Rs70,000 crore annually on road construction.These steps will help revive the scenario very soon. Next year, we aim to grow faster than the industry like we have done in the past. We are constantly developing and integrating our products with newer technologies thus bringing higher efficiency and better uptime of the machine. With efficient mapping of expansion plans in the Indian market, we aim to establish our footprints with maximum dealership across India. Looking at the boost in the infrastructural sector activities, we aim at supporting the government and are ready with our offering for the construction projects.
